Moving Blankets as Insulation
In cold weather, our heavy moving blankets serve a dual purpose: they protect surfaces as they always do, AND they insulate furniture against rapid temperature changes during the transition from heated home to cold truck and back to heated home.
Cold-weather moves get extra blankets on all furniture — we don’t economize on protection when conditions are challenging.
Plastic Stretch Wrap for Moisture Protection
Moisture is the primary enemy in wet-weather moves. When snow or rain is present, we wrap all upholstered furniture, fabric items, and anything moisture-sensitive in plastic stretch wrap before blanket-wrapping.
The stretch wrap creates a waterproof barrier that keeps moisture from penetrating to fabric surfaces even during brief exposure to precipitation.
Doorway and Entry Protection
Rain and snow travel into homes on boots, wheels, and wet items. We use heavy cardboard runners or Ram Board at all doorways to absorb and contain moisture.
Moving through a wet doorway repeatedly with heavy items can soak a floor in minutes. Our floor protection prevents this.
Truck Temperature Management
Moving trucks cool down quickly when their doors are open during loading. We work efficiently to minimize the time truck doors are open, maintaining warmer internal temperatures.
Items that are most sensitive to cold (electronics, musical instruments, certain medications) are loaded last so they’re in the truck’s warmest interior zone and for the shortest possible time.
